About bobs-politics.com

Welcome to bobs-politics.com. This site is just my musings on political events and it is a window into my current thoughts and ideas. Those who know me can testify that as I chat and discuss issues with my friends and colleagues around the globe, I do change my opinions. So, don’t be surprised if you find inconsistencies in some of these posts.

I am a mixture of conservative and liberal beliefs. I am a non-affiliated voter but do vote mostly Republican. My views can be described as somewhat libertarian as, I do believe that the government has no place in dictating what we do. I believe that God has given fundamental rights to all men, women and young person including those of personal property, personal choice, personal responsibility and self-defense.

I believe we are all accountable for the choices we make and not those choices made by others. The American justice system, I believe, is founded on the fundamental value that we are only responsible for our own actions. A founding judicial principle in the US is that I am held accountable for the choices (or lack thereof) that I personally make; i.e., I don’t go to jail for a crime my friend, brother, sister, father or mother committed only those that I commit.

I reject the old African proverb used by Hillary Clinton and others “It takes a village to raise a child.” Hidden in the statement is the notion that the government knows what is best for your child and hence they should be doing testing and bureaucratic evaluations to determine who belongs in Harvard and who should be digging ditches; i.e., vocation, education, housing, food, jobs for a child is determined by the needs of the village not the choices of the parent or child as was in the Soviet Union and is now in China.

Spock in The Wrath of Khan has a line: “Logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few” to which Captain Kirk adds “or the one”. I do not subscribe to this ideal although it is expressed in so many of our movies and by most politicians. This thinking seems to become ingrained into our culture as a fundamental value. This philosophical view, in my opinion, underlays the justification of the many societal crimes committed on individuals by powerful elites embracing Fascism, Marxism, Communism and Totalitarianism and is often repackaged with acceptable colorful political or religious labels such as Socialism, Democratic Socialism, Income redistribution, Diversity and Liberation theology just to name a few. (I cannot believe I quoted from the Star Trek).
